Things to do on e-Bikes Landsborough and Mooloolah

Landsborough–Mooloolah: Rail-to-Trail e-MTB and e-Bike Adventures

Where to Eat in Landsborough & Mooloolah – Rider-Friendly Food Stops

Exploring Landsborough and Mooloolah by e-bike or e-MTB is as much about the food stops as the ride itself. Both townships offer relaxed, welcoming venues that work perfectly before, during or after a day on the trails or cycleways.

In Mooloolah, Jones Street Kitchen is a standout local café on Jones Street, popular with riders for its hearty breakfasts, burgers, café classics and consistently good coffee. It’s an easy roll-in stop from the rail trail or nearby forest loops. The Mooloolah township bakery and cafés on the main street provide classic country options such as pies, pastries, sausage rolls and simple lunches—ideal for a quick refuel between rides. There are also several casual takeaway outlets offering fish and chips, burgers and pizza-style meals for an easy post-ride feed.

A few minutes from town, Mooloolah Valley Country Club makes an excellent social finish for e-MTB loops linking Dularcha and Ewen Maddock Dam. This family-friendly country club features a bistro, bar, outdoor deck overlooking the bowling green and regular live music. Reviews highlight generous pub classics, seafood dishes and friendly service, making it well suited to groups, tour riders and relaxed evenings.

In Landsborough, food options cluster conveniently around the historic main street and railway station. The Steaming Cup, located opposite the station, is a favourite for quality coffee, cakes and light breakfasts or lunches—perfect for riders arriving by train. Nearby, Didi’s Coffee Haus on Maleny Street offers espresso, grab-and-go food and simple breakfast options. The Landsborough bakery and surrounding cafés along Maleny and Cribb Streets round out the choices with classic country fare that suits riders of all ages and abilities.

Together, Landsborough and Mooloolah deliver easy, rider-friendly food stops that naturally complement rail-to-ride e-bike adventures and e-MTB trail loops in this part of the Sunshine Coast.

Coastal Hinterland Ecology on e-MTB

The landscapes of Dularcha National Park and Ewen Maddock Dam sit within the same coastal hinterland band of the Sunshine Coast, yet each delivers a distinctly different ecological experience for riders exploring by e-MTB. Together, they showcase how forest, water and wildlife intersect across a relatively small geographic area, making them ideal for slow, immersive riding.

Dularcha National Park is characterised by a strong forest–gully–riparian structure. Open eucalypt forests dominate the ridgelines, with tall flooded gums (Eucalyptus grandis) and other eucalypt species lining creeks and drainage lines. These wetter sections support pockets of rainforest plants and a denser understorey, creating cooler, shaded riding conditions along parts of the old rail corridor. Cabbage tree palms (Livistona) appear in sheltered gullies, adding to the sense of moving through changing vegetation zones as the trail dips and rises. Seasonal wildflowers, including native pea-flowers, bring colour to track edges during warmer months.

This layered vegetation supports a high diversity of fauna. Birdlife is particularly rich, with species such as blue-faced honeyeaters, forest kingfishers, golden and rufous whistlers, parrots and small insectivorous birds frequently seen or heard along the trail. The historic rail tunnel and surrounding forest provide important roosting and nesting habitat for microbats and birds such as pardalotes. On warmer days, goannas are often spotted basking near track edges, while the mix of forest and creek habitats underpins hundreds of recorded native species, from reptiles and mammals to invertebrates.

Ewen Maddock Dam introduces a very different ecological flavour. While dry eucalypt woodland and wet sclerophyll forest still frame much of the riding experience, the presence of a large water body adds lake and wetland habitats not found at Dularcha. Around the dam margins, riders pass through paperbark and tea-tree groves, swampy reedbeds and open grassy sections, creating a mosaic of environments within a single loop. Waterlilies and aquatic plants are visible from the shared-use trails, especially in calmer bays and shallow edges.

This diversity attracts an impressive range of wildlife. Bird species commonly recorded include willy wagtails, finches, whipbirds, parrots, kingfishers, herons, ducks, pukekos, pelicans and, at times, jabirus. Forest margins support mammals, reptiles and invertebrates adapted to woodland–wetland edges, while frogs and aquatic insects thrive in the reedbeds and shallow waters. The dam itself is stocked with native fish such as Australian bass, silver perch, golden perch and southern saratoga, contributing to a healthy aquatic ecosystem.

For e-MTB riders, these two locations complement each other perfectly. Dularcha offers a sense of travelling through layered forest and history, while Ewen Maddock Dam opens out into expansive water views and wetland life. Riding them together creates a deeper understanding of the Sunshine Coast hinterland—how forest, water and wildlife connect—and turns a simple trail ride into a richer, nature-based experience.

Rail-to-Ride from Brisbane to Mooloolah

One of the easiest and most sustainable things to do on an e-bike from Brisbane is to take the train directly to Mooloolah Station and start riding the moment you arrive. This rail-to-ride option makes e-biking on the Sunshine Coast simple, car-free and stress-free. ecoTekkSC meets riders at the station with pre-fitted e-bikes, allowing you to roll straight onto cycle paths and quiet connectors toward Mooloolaba Beach. The route passes local icons, open green spaces and coastal pathways, covering around 28 km on mostly sealed bike infrastructure. It’s an ideal weekend escape combining train travel, e-bike adventure and beachside accommodation.

Self-guided Adventure Ideas Around Landsborough and Mooloolah: Day and multi-Day e-Bike hires

🐋 Whale Watching on the Sunshine Coast – By E-Bike

Each year from June to October, the Sunshine Coast becomes one of Australia’s most rewarding places to watch humpback whales as they migrate along the coastline. Using an ecoTekkSC electric bike, you can quietly explore the region’s best whale-watching lookouts, moving easily between headlands without traffic, parking stress or environmental impact.

Tranquil Getaways at On Obi Maleny

on e-Bikes

Tucked beside the gentle curves of Obi Obi Creek, Tranquil Getaways On Obi Maleny offers couples a peaceful hinterland escape where time slows, birdsong replaces traffic, and nature frames every moment. Staying here places you right in the heart of Maleny — perfectly positioned to explore the Blackall Range in an effortless, low-impact way with ecoTekkSC electric bikes delivered directly to your door.

Red-legged Pademelons at Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve

Rare but Possible Wildlife Encounter

Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve protects one of the Sunshine Coast hinterland’s most intact pockets of subtropical rainforest, and within this cool, shadowed world lives one of its most elusive mammals — the red-legged pademelon. Smaller and far shyer than wallabies or kangaroos, pademelons are true rainforest specialists, relying on dense understorey, deep leaf litter, and low light to survive.

Gary Evans Walkway Loop – Nambour

Family-Friendly Bike Ride

This gentle loop along Petrie Creek is one of Nambour’s best easy rides—perfect for families, beginners and anyone chasing a relaxed roll through green space. Starting at Quota Park, the mostly paved pathway follows the creek beneath shady trees, crossing small bridges and opening onto picnic spots and playgrounds along the way. Expect a calm, flat ride where kids can cruise comfortably and adults can slow down and enjoy the surroundings.

Keep an eye on the water at dawn or dusk—recent community surveys have confirmed platypus activity in Petrie Creek, especially around quieter bends near the Model Railway Park. It’s a lovely reminder that even urban creeks can support remarkable wildlife.

For those wanting a little extra distance, confident riders can extend the loop beyond Carter Road using quiet residential streets and parks before reconnecting with the creek. Take care on on-road sections, as bike lanes are limited.

Pro tip: Start early, ride slow, and finish with a picnic back at Quota Park.

Pick up. Roll out. Ride the future.

on ecoTekkSC e-MTB

Your Parklands e-MTB experience begins at the ecoTekkSC workshop in Kulangoor, where your electric mountain bike is set up and ready to roll. From here, it’s a relaxed 3.5 km roadside ride to the Radar Hill entrance—an ideal warm-up that lets you settle into the feel of pedal-assist before the trails begin.

Once inside Parklands Conservation Park, the landscape opens into one of the Sunshine Coast’s most iconic mountain bike networks. Flowing green trails, rainforest pockets and technical singletrack invite exploration, while a wide, beginner-friendly fire-trail loop provides an accessible option for riders new to electric mountain biking. With gentle gradients and clear lines of sight, novices can build confidence at their own pace before choosing whether to venture deeper into the trail system.

Pedal-assist transforms the ride, making longer distances achievable and allowing riders to explore up to 50 km of trails, depending on battery use and terrain. This is the same rugged landscape proposed as the Sunshine Coast Mountain Bike Centre for Brisbane 2032—ride it now not as a race course, but as an immersive, nature-based e-MTB adventure where confidence grows with every turn of the trail.
